The generation, who grew up through the post WWII years, the cold war and the frivolous 1960s, came to respect the world order established in that period, especially the UN and affiliated organisations e.g. UNICEF and WHO. We have come to believe and trust that that world order is beyond reproach and would endure.
Every country would keep to the rules and regulations built into it; and it would ensure that all nations and all people could live together in harmony. It has come as a shock to me to see how Russia find it has to use military power to force its will onto its neighbours and filled me with an insatiable urge to try to understand what has gone wrong.
